blest skate- and snowboard designs on the way

So, as of late, programming has become a bit monotonous, and I started looking for something else to occupy my spare time. I started thinking about stuff that I am truly passionate about, and the one thing that really stood out was skateboarding.

Now as I totally suck and skateboarding myself, I started thinking of what else to do in that area. What did I come up with? Deck designs. So, starting today I will be putting a lot of time and effort into designing. Of course in the beginning, while I find my feet in this area, these won't be great, but I am sure that with time and practice, my designs will be of a high standard.

Once I am happy with the level of deck designs I am putting out, I will have these up for sale, but for now, it is all about the pure joy of it.

Kongoni Nietzsche released

By AJ Venter

It is my pleasure to announce that Kongoni version 1.12.2 codenamed Nietzsche has been officially released. This marks the first official and stable release of the Kongoni GNU/Linux distribution after several development releases. Kongoni is a fully free African GNU/Linux distribution based on Slackware with significant inspiration from the BSD-Unix architectures. The operating system is primarily designed for desktop power users and aims to provide a powerful, customizable system that puts the user in control of his own environment while nonetheless being easy to work with and not get in your way.

The most significant Kongoni feature is its source base software installation system (known as a ports tree), a feature that originated in the BSD-Unix world and remains a popular power-users tool on present day BSD-Unixes, Apple(tm)'s MacOS(R) and source based GNU/Linux distributions. Kongoni, however, is not a source-based distribution. The distribution itself is shipped as binaries which work out of the box. The ports tree is used only for installing additional software. This is the same approach taken by the BSD Unix system but relatively unique for a GNU/Linux system.

Kongoni releases 1.12.2-alpha, codenamed Sophocles

The Kongoni GNU/Linux project is proud to announce the availability of an alpha release of version 1.12.2. The release is named Sophocles after the philosopher often referred to as the father of modern thought as it represents the first release that is really uniquely kongoni.
At heart, Kongoni is a desktop focussed GNU/Linux distribution with significant inspiration from the BSD-unix systems. The system is based on slackware 12.2 with the latest upstream patches and also features KDE 4.2.2 as well as the latest stable releases of most common desktop applications such as OpenOffice.org. Like it's BSD ideological ancestors Kongoni does not provide add-on software as binary packages but rather as ports. This means the system contains an automated tool that fetches the source code for requested programs (including dependencies) then compiles it locally and builds a package which gets installed.

This release includes the first versions of several kongoni specific tools including P.I.G (Ports Installation GUI) which provides a simple graphical tool for installing, managing and even creating software ports and K.I.S.S. The Kongoni Instant Setup System which provides a simple and highly extensible interface for common configuration tasks. The installer has had several notable improvements, making it not only easier to use but also more stable and flexible with support added for installing on ReiserFS filesystems (ext4 support is planned for a future release).

Some of the most visible changes are in the artwork and theming. Our arts-team has been hard at work and Sophocles is now completely themed with our African sunsets colour-schemes and associated wallpapers and other artwork. This release is still at alpha status and not ready for production use, but it should be adequate for anybody to test and play with, we do expect there to be bugs and would like to put out a request to those who try it to keep an eye out and report bugs they find on our forums at http://www.kongoni.co.za so that we can fix them in the next release.

For those who already have the aristotle release, it is now possible to do a complete rolling upgrade to Sophocles by following the steps in the howto here. Kongoni can be downloaded as an ISO image which can be burned to a disk to create a live CD. The same images can also be used to create live USB sticks which can be booted and installed just like the live CD's. The same boot-from-USB setup has also been successfully tested on numerous netbooks including the ASUS eeepc. Kongoni has native versions for either 32-bit or 64-bit CPU's and the 64-bit version has support for 32-bit emulation included for running
32-bit only programs.

The ISO images can be downloaded from our website, there are also links there for torrent
files to allow for downloading the system over bittorrent.

Recent Developments

You know how sometimes lightning just seems to strike your brain. Well something like that has happened to me recently.

I have decided to split my portfolio and art. Not to diferent categories, but to different sites. My Artician profile, with all it's wonderful CSS customizing capabilities, will be used as my professional portfolio, and it will only contain work related stuff. All my personal art will be moved to deviantArt.

This is effectively nothing but a professional move, as I want to point people who want to see my work to a portfolio that contains just that. For someone that want to see my art, I can then point to somewhere that only has my art.

I will be getting getting Artician Pro in the very near future, as I would like to point a domain to my Artician Portfolio.

So, if you see my submissions suddenly get less, or disapear, don't worry. I'm not going anywhere.
